Areas of Expertise:

  • Behavioral Neuroscience Research on Drug Addiction
  • Science Writing and Editing

Heather Lasseter, Ph.D., is a Health Communications Fellow for the Surveillance Research Program (SRP), where she writes and edits information for SRP's Bi-weekly Updates and Quarterly E-newsletters, and assists with updating SRP's websites, factsheets, monographs and brochures. Prior to joining SRP in January 2012, Heather earned a B.A. in neuroscience from Kenyon College in Gambier, OH and a Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In graduate school, Heather's research consisted of using a preclinical model to identify the neural circuitry that facilitates the ability of drug-associated environmental stimuli (i.e. neighborhoods where drug use occurred) to provoke drug craving and seeking in former drug users ever after prolonged abstinence periods. During graduate school, Heather also served as an editor for American Journal Experts, where she provided editing services to non-native English speakers to facilitate the publication of manuscripts into scientific journals, which contributed to her continued interests in science writing and health communication.
