Margaret Stedman is a Program Director and Mathematical Statistician for the Data Modeling Branch (DMB) of the Surveillance Research Program (SRP) within the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Dr. Stedman received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Management and Pre-medicine from Simmons College, a Masters in Public Health degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biostatistics from Boston University, where her thesis compared methods for physician-randomized trials with binary and survival outcomes. As a postdoctoral research fellow, she was awarded a training grant (NRSA/T32) from the Orthopedics Department at Harvard Medical School to study the application of competing risk methods for orthopedics research.

Dr. Stedman's current research interests include comparative effectiveness research, multilevel modeling, survival analysis, and epidemiology methods. She also has extensive experience analyzing insurance claims data. At the NCI Dr. Stedman's duties include management of grants, independent research, and statistical consulting. Her research projects include extending SEER data through linkage with other data sources, investigating methods for and applications of the crude probability of cancer death and death from other causes, and other survival measures.

Dr. Stedman is a member of the American Statistical Association, the Royal Statistical Society, and the Eastern North American Region Biometrics Society.
